In a high-profile panel, leading cannabis experts from the USA will debate current trends on the capital markets at the CB Expo. There is agreement that European cannabis companies in particular will find it much easier to access capital after recent tough times .
"I'm finally back as an investor," announced William Muecke from US VC Artemis, which specializes in cannabis. His message: "The market has changed." There is currently great interest in developments in Europe, especially in the USA. Now is the time to close financing rounds. In his opinion, the cannabis industry is exciting precisely because of the simplest investment thesis: illegal markets are transforming into legal markets - and all this with an average growth of over 20 percent per year.
Chris Murray, director of the consulting firm Foxnrth, points out that cannabis is particularly interesting for companies in the pharmaceutical, tobacco and alcohol sectors; all three - like cannabis - are highly regulated markets. In his opinion, tobacco companies in particular could invest a lot of capital. The fact that they have flopped several times in the past plays a minor role. "Ten million dollars feels more like a few cents in the R&D department," says Murray. According to Murray, the main motivation of tobacco companies for cannabis investments? It's not primarily about the company's bottom line, but above all about learning more about the cannabis industry. According to Muecke, tobacco companies have a ten to 20-year strategy for cannabis.
